Sustainable development refers to the development that fulfils the need of the present generation without undermining the opportunities or compromising with the needs of the future generation.
When did the term sustainable development got the recognition?
In the year 1983, the United Nations created the World Commission on Environment and Development, which later came to be known as the Brundtland commission.

IMPORTANCE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Conventionally, growth of economy was considered to be of utmost importance. But, overtime we have developed awareness about our surroundings and are conscious of the negative impact being made on the environment because of our malpractices.
